At Elite Kitchens, flooring is our specialty, but we understand it may not be yours—and that’s perfectly fine! Our experts are here to assist you. We hope this handy project checklist will help you stay organized as you work through each step of your next home improvement project.

Embarking on any home improvement project demands hard work, careful planning, and a clear understanding of the steps involved. At Elite Kitchens, we are dedicated to assisting our customers in planning effectively. We recommend starting with a checklist and following it throughout the project. It can be helpful to divide your checklist into three stages: pre-project, during the project, and post-project.

  1. Remove furniture from workspace.
  2. Empty closets and pantries if needed.
  3. Remove oven, fridge, and dishwasher if working in kitchen.
  4. Remove all items from countertops.
  5. Remove toilet if working in bathroom.
  6. Draw blinds or lift or remove window treatments.
  7. If installing hardwood, laminate, or luxury vinyl flooring, prepare an area for acclimation. These flooring types need time to adjust to the humidity levels in your home before they can be installed.
  1. Plan to be home during the installation and communicate with the team as needed.
  2. Address baseboards and doors (your installers will know what to do about these).
  3. Ask any questions while the team is onsite.
  1. Wait 24 hours before walking on your flooring.
  2. Wait 48 hours before returning furniture.
  3. Place felt pads on the legs of all furniture.
  4. Wait one week before placing rugs on your new flooring.
  5. Keep your flooring completely dry for at least one week.
  6.

Last but not least, it’s important to be prepared for the unexpected. It’s a good idea to purchase extra product in case some becomes damaged. You’ll also want to prepare for any subfloor issues before your installation.
